About Argyll Driver Training

Argyll Driver Training had been running for almost 3 years using the MINI, but it was time for a change.

Halle, the red & white MINI of Argyll Driver Training had become a familiar sight in the Dunoon area, but, like everything else, nothing stands still in the field of driver training.  The 'facelifted' MINI now available has been changed from the model that Rob used, and having test driven it, Rob has decided that it was no longer the ideal training car.

Therefore Halle has undergone some 'cosmetic surgery' and has reappeared as a Suzuki Swift 1.5GLX.  This 3 door supermini is as stylish and fun to drive as the MINI, so still offers the same driving experience.

An experienced grade 5 instructor, Rob is fully up to date with all the latest DSA requirements, including the requirements of the L test, the recommended style of driving, and the training methods used.  This includes the theory and hazard perception test.  Rob had to sit an extended theory and hazard perception test as part of his qualification, so who better to train you to pass yours first time?

In October 2007 Argyll Driver Training celebrated its 100th test pass.  This has been achieved in under 3 years, and with a pass rate consistently higher than the Dunoon test centre average.

Rob came to Cowal in May 2003, having previously spent 14 years at Rolls-Royce Aero Engines in Derby.  After starting as an apprentice from school, Rob spent his later years at RR as a Project Manager looking after the large Trent aero engines for Airbus and Boeing.  Part of his job involved training new members of his team in the complex processes involved in producing aero engines, some of which are made of over 32,000 individual parts!

Having chosen to leave Rolls-Royce as the aerospace industry struggled in the aftermath of 9/11, Rob decided it was time to try something a bit different.  He'd always enjoyed driving, and enjoyed training people and seeing them succeed, so becoming a driving instructor seemed a sensible idea!!

As you explore this website, you will discover that learning with Argyll Driver Training is much more than just having driving lessons.
